NHTI Spring Break Adventure in Costa Rica

Travel/Study Abroad Program
Spring Break, March 12-21, 2010

Explore some of the world's most beautiful and unusual plant and animal habitats from the treetops on a canopy tour, from the walking trails in the Cloud Forest, and even from the bedroom window of your lodge! NHTI's Spring Adventure in Costa Rica Program is not only a feast for your senses, it's a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture and to get to know the people who work hard to conserve and protect their unique environment. It also fulfills the Biology lab requirement for NHTI's 4 credit, online Tropical Ecology and Conservation course (BI 180, Jan. 2009).

Please join us! This 10 day adventure is open to any and all interested students or adult travelers. Anyone who loves the outdoors will love this trip! It offers plenty of warm sun, beautiful white sand beaches, spectacular scenery, friendly people and live volcanoes!

This 10 day adventure includes:

  • Roundtrip air from Boston
  • 9 nights multiple occupancy accommodations in tourist class hotels, lodges or science centers within the parks
  • A private coach throughout the tour
  • Most meals: Continental buffet breakfast & dinner daily plus 5 lunches
  • Entrance fees to Baldi Hot Springs, Manuel Antonio National Park, Palo Verde National Park, Carara National Park, Monteverde Reserve & La Selva Biological Station
  • Activity fees for: 100% Adventure Canopy Tour, Palo Verde Boat Tour, & Sarapiqui White Water Rafting Tour
  • Services of a full time bilingual, naturalist tour director for 10 days
  • An NHTI trip escort accompanying the group from departure and arrival at NHTI

Program Fees * (based on 2009 rates & a group of 20)

  • Standard Program Fee: $2195
    (for all interested travelers outside of NHTI)
  • NHTI Discount: $1995
    (for interested NHTI students, staff, faculty and alumni)
  • BI 180 Student Discount: $1895
    (only for students in BI 180 Tropical Ecology & Conservation Course. Financial Aid may be available depending on your individual situation.)

Not Included in the Program Fees

  • Possible weekend air travel supplement: Fri., Sat., or Sun. travel subject to $30 surcharge.
  • Estimated Airline Fuel Surcharge: $330 pp currently.
  • Suggested Tips for tour director, drivers, local guides: $15 pp.
  • Costa Rica exit tax: $26 pp.

A completed application & deposit will reserve your spot. Applications accepted on a first come, first serve basis, until the trip is full. Applications & information available online.

A fully refundable deposit of $250 will secure your spot until final pricing becomes available.

This class is offered online in the spring semester, beginning in January 2009. Professor Nathan Strong is the instructor and will also accompany the group on the trip.
