34,000 SF structure will increase nursing enrollment to respond to critical shortage

CONCORD, N.H. - A groundbreaking ceremony for the Health Education & Academic Center at NHTI, Concord's Community College, was held in May. The project is the result of nearly six years of community planning and fundraising.

The capital campaign for the Health Education and Academic Center was entitled, “Building Our Future.Caring for Yours.” The total cost of the project is $6.5 million. In addition to $2.5 million in private donations, the project is supported by State capital funds, and a federal grant obtained with the help of former Congressman Charles Bass. More than 500 individuals, corporations, foundations, faculty, alumni and students contributed to the project.

The lead donation was a $1 million gift from Robert and Beverly Grappone of Bow. Mrs. Grappone, herself a nurse, took nursing courses at NHTI and served as capital campaign chair.

The architectural design of the building was done by Duene Cowan, a 1977 graduate of NHTI's architectural engineering program and the owner of DC Designs Architectural Studios, Concord.

The 34,000 square feet building will include:

  • A state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab with hospital rooms and nursing stations;
  • Nursing classrooms and Science labs;
  • A 175-seat auditorium;
  • Computer lab
