Student Photographer Finds Joy in Her Craft

Concord – From August 4–29, 2008, the NHTI Library will host an exhibit of photographs by nursing student Holly Young of Sanbornton.

Holly has been taking pictures ever since she was a teenager. “I loved to take pictures of everything,” she writes, “but mostly sunsets and foliage because of the colors.”

As Holly got older, though, she found herself growing disappointed with her photos. “I'd take what I thought were going to be awe-inspiring pictures, only to get them developed and find they were not what I had seen through the camera.”

Then in the fall of 2006, Holly bought a digital camera. “Nothing fancy, a Kodak Easyshare base model, but something with which I could take pictures and see them instantly, or take 10, 15 or 30 pictures of the same thing at once. I loved this camera and since then I have become a photography maniac! I can take up to 500 pictures at a time!

“I started to find constant inspiration in everyday things, sometimes seeing them in a whole new perspective than before. Taking pictures is a joy and an escape for me -- like I've gone somewhere away from the stressors of the world. It relaxes me so much that when I'm done I'm surprised at how centered & calm I feel.”

Holly's pictures can be viewed any time the library is open. Library hours are posted here.
